Digital Twin-4-Multiphysics Lab

Typical Digital Twin Setting
Fraunhofer SCAI, Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences and the Dr. Reinold Hagen Foundation are cooperating to promote digitalization research for small and medium-sized enterprises. The "Digital Twin-4-Multiphysics Lab" (DT4MP) combines engineering sciences and computer science in a unique network. The aim is to develop new machine learning methods and apply them to simulations and experimental technical systems.

Cooperation with Companies

  • Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), such as machine and tool manufacturers, parts manufacturers and service providers, benefit from the activities of the Lab. Many SMEs are specialized experts in their niche, but face high digitalization pressure and major hurdles to fully exploit their own data and expertise.
  • Along the supply chains, we also target the design and virtual engineering departments of larger companies. The local industry in the Cologne-Bonn-Aachen region and representatives of the local plastics industry are a particular focus.

Our services for You

The fusion of machine learning and multi-physical simulations at different levels will strengthen the ability to analyze and evaluate engineering tasks in support systems. This leads to more flexibility and time for creative and design-oriented engineering, faster time-to-market for developments and new application areas.

Advantages of the lab:

  •     AI-supported solutions for complex engineering
  •     Increased accessibility of digital twins
  •     Identification of development and savings potentials
  •     Development of cross-domain methodological approaches

Concrete services are:

  •     Data generation, data consolidation, outlier detection, analysis, storage, predictive maintenance
  •     Virtual testing of concepts, virtual commissioning
  •     Shorter overall development time through early testing against a digital twin
  •     Validation and process optimization
  •     Testing the entire production process with regard to extreme situations
  •      Training of employees on the digital twin

Cooperative research

The lab invites joint research cooperation with a view to specific fields of application. The well-founded common knowledge base contributes to working at the cutting edge of development in this field and to continuously submitting competitive third-party funding applications, if necessary also with you as an external partner.
