Project Description
The Food 2020 project is all about the German-Dutch border region, the center of the European food industry.
Through the project, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the food industry in the border region receive financial and technical support as well as innovative ideas from research institutions.
Projects in the following areas are eligible for funding:
- Use of new processing methods
- Sustainable food production
- Development of improved working conditions
- Further training of employees
- Securing skilled workers
The funding activities differ in two aspects:
1. Innovation projects
- Budget maximum 300,000 euros
- Duration 2 years
Project partners are essentially SMEs networked with scientific institutions. A total of 84 companies are involved in innovation projects.
2. Feasibility studies
- Budget maximum 25.000 Euro
- Duration 6 months
Project partners are mostly 2 SMEs, cross-border. A total of 50 SMEs are involved in feasibility studies.

- Increasing competitiveness
- Establishment of cross-border networks
- Stimulation of technology transfer and innovation development
- Product and process design for companies
- Securing qualified workforce
- Attraction of new workers
- Establishment of a model region
