Scholarships for Students with a refugee status

As part of the "NRWege ins Studium für Geflüchtete" and "Zukunft Ukraine" programs, the University of Applied Sciences Bonn-Rhein-Sieg can award scholarships to students with a refugee background who are highly motivated and likely to succeed in their studies.

As part of the "Zukunft Ukraine" program, scholarships are awarded to Ukrainian students who have fled Ukraine and are characterized by high motivation and a high probability of academic success. The scholarships are funded by the Federal Foreign Office (Auswärtiges Amt) and supported by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). If you meet the requirements, we look forward to receiving your application documents to (refugees@h-brs.de).

 

 

FUNDING AMOUNT AND DURATION

The scholarships are awarded each semester. Scholarship holders receive a maximum monthly payment of 931 euros as part of the scholarship. Benefits from other sources of state funding will be offset against the scholarship. If the scholarship holders return to Ukraine to continue their studies and continue the scholarship at a Ukrainian university, this can be supported by a one-time mobility grant of 350 euros.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Enrollment in a regular study program at the university
  • Proven refugee background and corresponding residence status
  • Positive expert letter/letter of recommendation
  • Financial need: Priority will be given to low-income students with no other financial aid available

APPLICATION DOCUMENTS

If you are interested, please first send an email to (refugees@h-brs.de), to receive the application form.

Only complete application documents can be considered. Please submit the following application documents to the International Office:

  • Application form with signature
  • Letter of motivation with information on financial situation
  • Bank statements of the last three months of all bank accounts
  • Proof of BAföG application or rejection and information on other scholarships
  • Certificate of enrollment for the current semester at H-BRS
  • Copy of residence permit, copy of recognition of refugee status (usually in accordance with § 24 AufenthG)
  • Letter of recommendation or evaluation form
  • Signed data protection consent

After the application deadline and the selection of the applicants by a commission, the International Office will inform you about the result of your application by the beginning of lectures at the latest.

NRWege ins Studium

Application for WS 2023/2024 starts on 01.09.2023

As part of the "NRWege ins Studium für Geflüchtete" program, up to 6 scholarships are awarded to students with a refugee background who are highly motivated and likely to succeed in their studies. The scholarships are funded by the Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia (MKW) and coordinated through the International Office. If you meet the requirements, we look forward to receiving your application documents sent to (refugees@h-brs.de).

FUNDING AMOUNT AND DURATION

The scholarships are awarded for a period of up to 12 months (January-December). Scholarship holders receive a monthly payment of up to 992€ as part of the scholarship. Benefits from other sources of government funding are counted towards the scholarship. Partial scholarships as a supplement to BAföG, for example, can be paid out in the amount of 300€.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Enrollment in a regular course of study at the university
  • Proven refugee background and corresponding residence status
  • Positive evaluation/letter of recommendation
  • Financial need: Priority will be given to low-income students without other assistance
  • Willingness to volunteer in the program

Proven refugee background is:

- Persons entitled to asylum, persons recognized as refugees or persons entitled to subsidiary protection, as well as persons for whom a national ban on deportation has been established, as well as comparable persons who have a residence permit (Sections 25 (1-3), 22, 23 (1) and (2), 23 (4), 23a or 25 (4), 25 (5) of the Act on the Residence, Gainful Employment and Integration of Foreigners in the Federal Territory (Residence Act - AufenthG).
- Persons who have been admitted on the basis of the mass influx directive and have a right of residence pursuant to Section 24 of the Residence Act.
- Persons who have received a rejection in the asylum procedure conducted by the BAMF, but a deportation has been temporarily suspended (Duldung according to § 60 a Abs. 2 AufenthG). - Persons who are in Germany via family reunification, if in addition the residence status of the "Stammberechtigter" exists (§§29, 30, 31, 32, 34 Abs. 1, 34 Abs. 2, 36) - Persons with a settlement permit who have not been in Germany for more than 5 years. (§36 AufenthG)

APPLICATION DOCUMENTS

Only complete application documents can be considered. Please submit the following application documents collectively to the International Office:

  • Application form with signature (form can be found in the linked documents section)
  • Letter of motivation with information on the financing of living expenses
  • Current complete transcript of grades
  • Bank statements from all accounts for the last three months
  • Proof of BAföG application or refusal and other scholarships
  • Certificate of enrollment for the current semester at H-BRS
  • Copy of residence permit or recognition of refugee status
  • Letter of recommendation from a university lecturer/university lecturer
  • Signed privacy policy

After the end of the application period and the selection of the applicants by a commission, the International Office will inform you about the result of your application by the beginning of lectures at the latest.
