Visual Technical Communication (BSc)
Course of study
In the first and second semesters (foundation year), students receive a comprehensive overview of media systems, the tools of the trade for media professionals and the professional fields in technical communication. Text production, media design, photography and video production are taught in theory and practice. This content of the foundation year is supplemented by the STEM track (mathematics, computer science, natural sciences, technology), which extends over the entire degree programme.
In the third and fourth semesters (focus year), students deepen their theoretical, scientific and practical knowledge of visual forms of presentation. The production of different film formats, knowledge of corporate and market communication as well as electives on current issues in technology communication and projects on practical media and scientific issues round off the focus year.
In the fifth semester, students complete a twenty-week internship semester in editorial offices, agencies and companies. There they contribute creative ideas and put what they have learnt into practice. The aim of the practical semester is to prepare students for professional practice. Alternatively, students can also complete a semester abroad.
In the sixth and seventh semesters, students deepen their knowledge of socially relevant fields of politics and technology, leadership and law. In an interdisciplinary creative module, students deal with visualisation tasks. To this end, they use animation software and VR and work in teams with computer scientists on gaming projects. These and other topics lend themselves to practical work, which is seen as a calling card for starting a career. The research project prepares students for their Bachelor's thesis in the seventh semester.
