Responsible Economy and Natural Resources
The research field at a glance
The central focus fields of the research group "Responsible Economy and Natural Resources":
- Green Economy
- Sustainable and resilient urban spaces
- Natural resources, biodiversity, climate adaptation
- Sustainable production and consumption
- Education for Sustainable Development
The strategic starting point for the work of the International Center for Sustainable Development (IZNE) is its orientation toward the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The 17 formulated Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) form the core of the "2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development". As a member of the German Sustainable Development Solutions Network, we thus contribute to promoting sustainable development in Germany and German commitment to sustainable development worldwide.
The questions of the research focus Responsible Business and Natural Resources are oriented towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by the United Nations in September 2015. The goals 'Quality education' (SDG 4), 'Sustainable cities and communities' (SDG 11)' 'Responsible consumption and production patterns' (SDG 12), 'Climate action' (SDG 13), 'Living on land' (SDG 15) and 'Partnerships to achieve the goals' (SDG 17) are the focus of the considerations.
Nachhaltige Entwicklungen begleiten
„A socio-ecological transformation towards sustainable development requires the search for innovative joint solutions. Our interdisciplinary work creates new perspectives on major societal challenges such as biodiversity and climate adaptation and brings the relevant actors to the table. Cooperation and partnership are required, both in our region and internationally. For practical implementation, cities and local actors play a special role.”
Prof. Dr. Wiltrud Terlau - Professor of Economics, Resilient and Sustainable Development/ Executive Director of the International Centre for Sustainable Development (IZNE)
Research and development
The research interest is the transformation, sustainability and resilience of socio-ecological systems in local and global contexts. The behavior of all levels and stakeholders, including communities, citizens and consumers, is an integral part of the holistic approach.
