The journey was long, the programme tightly scheduled: Suha Shehab spent a week taking a very close look at the Bonn-Rhine-Sieg University of Applied Sciences (H-BRS). The Jordanian works in the office of the President of the German Jordanian University. The renowned university is a partner university of the H-BRS. The EU Erasmus+ programme for university staff made the professional exchange possible.

"Staff mobility for training purposes" is the name of the programme which financed the visit from the German Jordanian University (GJU) to Sankt Augustin. The EU mobility programme Erasmus+ also enables university staff to receive support for further education and training measures abroad. The H-BRS and GJU have enjoyed a close partnership for many years, so it made sense for Suha Shehab to choose the partner university, not far from Cologne and Koblenz, for her further education. As she works at the GJU as the Executive Secretary in the President's Office, her counterpart was and colleague for “job shadowing” was Sabine Ellermann from the office of H-BRS President Hartmut Ihne

The Jordanian colleague spent her time not only looking over Sabine Ellermann's shoulder. The weekly schedule that Sally Brammer and the International Office put together for the Jordanian colleague included a number of other stops. The colleagues from the International Office took the opportunity to find out first-hand about the partner university in Jordan. Other stops included the B-it-bots robotics lab, the ZWT and the Departments of Management Science and EMT.

The university member from Jordan also put together a full tourist agenda: She wanted to see Cologne Cathedral and the Chocolate Museum. The Drachenfels, Koblenz and Cochem were also on her list. Suha Shehab had also made a note of Phantasialand as a must-see on her trip to North Rhine-Westphalia.

The German Jordanian University in Madaba is a young university that enjoys an excellent reputation in the region. It was founded in 2004 on the model of German universities of applied sciences, which is reflected, among other things, in the practice- and application-oriented focus of teaching and research. There are currently nine faculties with more than 30 degree programmes and around 4,500 students. A special feature is a compulsory year in Germany, half of which students spend at a German university and the other half at a company in Germany. German lessons are therefore compulsory to accompany the studies.
