Cyber Security and Privacy (BSc)

That's why we need solutions and experts for cyber security & privacy for successful and responsible digitalisation. You want to take responsibility? You want to help shape the future? You want to develop secure, privacy-enhancing and participation-oriented solutions for digital infrastructures, services and applications? Then the Cyber Security & Privacy degree programme at Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences is the right choice for you!
Course contents
The new Bachelor's degree programme Cyber Security & Privacy will start in the winter semester 2021/22 at the Department of Computer Science. Students acquire a solid knowledge of the basics of computer science and they also deal with a wide range of specialist topics in cyber security & privacy. To keep our content up-to-date and relevant in a professional context, modules are taught by professors from the Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences, experts from the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) and the Fraunhofer Institute FKIE. In the modules Introduction to Information Security, Data Protection, IT Law and Privacy, students learn the basics of IT security.
In the advanced modules, students expand their specialist knowledge:
- Applied Cryptography
- Network security Security of web applications
- Management of information security
- Digital Forensics
- Identity Management and Public Key Infrastructure (PKI)
The Cyber Security & Privacy degree programme also offers elective courses from the Department of Computer Science - and, as part of Cyber Campus NRW, also from the Cyber Security Management degree programme at Hochschule Niederrhein (University of Applied Sciences). Thus, students can also set a regulatory focus in IT security management in their studies.
Interdisciplinary qualifications in ethics and scientific work as well as a three-month practical project and the final thesis round off the programme of the degree programme. We support the possibility of a stay abroad during the degree programme.
Requirements
Analytical thinking skills, curiosity and creativity are important for this degree programme. Further developing these skills with case studies and hands-on practice is one of the important learning objectives of this degree programme.
Career prospects
There is currently a strong demand for academically trained experts in cyber security & privacy among companies and public authorities - both regionally and (inter)nationally. Our graduates come with a solid computer science education and are thus also qualified for the broader professional fields of computer scientists. The path to academic research is also open to our graduates: The Institute for Cyber Security & Privacy (ICSP) at the Department of Computer Science is currently being founded and a research-oriented consecutive Master's programme Cyber Security & Privacy is in preparation.
The programme is part of the Cyber Campus NRW project funded by the Ministry of Culture and Science.
