Doctorate with distinction for Dominik Wilde
In a public lecture, Wilde initially presented his research findings from the past years at Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg, the University of Siegen, and UC San Diego to an interested audience consisting of examiners, colleagues, friends, and family. In the subsequent disputation, Wilde managed to finally convince the examiners and is now entitled to use the title Dr.-Ing. Dominik Wilde. He concludes his doctoral studies with an impressive number of 11 publications.
Wilde thus follows in the successful tradition of cooperative doctoral candidates mentored by Prof. Dr. Holger Foysi (University of Siegen) and Prof. Dr. Dirk Reith (H-BRS). As a former Bundeswehr soldier, he is the third jointly supervised doctoral student, following in the footsteps of Dr. Andreas Krämer and Dr. Knut Küllmer, who conducted research on lattice Boltzmann methods for solving flow problems. Additional doctoral procedures are currently ongoing or in the planning phase.
Dominik Wilde's path to HBRS and research is also noteworthy. During his time as a Bundeswehr soldier, he completed a degree in aerospace engineering as a Diplom-Ingenieur and, while searching for an alternative to a career in the Bundeswehr, he established contact with the university. At the TREE Institute, he found a receptive audience and initially worked as an assistant while holding a full-time position with the Bundeswehr in the research group of Reith, Krämer, and Küllmer on various research projects. After completing his time as a soldier, he transitioned to full-time research for his doctoral studies starting in 2018.
