Information for First Semester Students (B.A. Sustainable Social Policy)

Welcome to the Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences and to the Department of Social Policy and Social Security! We are delighted to welcome you to the Sustainable Social Policy degree programme. 

To make it easier for you to start your studies, we are offering you various programme items from 20.09.2024 (see below). On Tuesday, 24 September 2024, from 10:00 a.m., we will meet at the main campus (lecture hall 3) for the central introductory day. There you will find out how your studies are organised, receive important information on course selection and you can get to know us and your fellow students in person (see below for programme details). If you are unable to attend on 24.09.2024, please let the degree programme coordinator (e-mail: fb06.koordination-ba-sozialpolitik@h-brs.de) know in good time.

We cordially invite you to the inaugural lecture by Prof Dr Derya Gür-Şeker from 14:30 p.m.. Derya Gür-Şeker is Professor of Communication and Society with a focus on social media. In addition to the official programme, the student council has planned further activities so that the year groups can network with each other!

Placement and self-assessment tests

A (compulsory) English placement test and a (voluntary) maths self-assessment test will take place during the introductory weeks.

The English placement test is expected to take place from 16/09/2024 to 25/09/2024 and you are free to choose when you take the test. You will receive a notification from the Language Centre with all the necessary information about the English placement test, which will be conducted online. The test is compulsory. It is not a certificate-relevant test, but rather a test to determine your competences for the admission requirements and planning of the subject-specific English courses in the 2nd semester.

The mathematics self-assessment test is expected to be available in LEA from 16/09/2024 to 25/09/2024. We will send you this link by email during the introductory days.

Introduction to LEA and library

On Friday, 20 September 2024, an introduction to the learning platform LEA and the library will take place via video conference (via WebEx) from 10:00 to 11:00. LEA will be a constant companion of your studies. Please make sure you take part in the video conference! You will receive the link to the event shortly beforehand by university e-mail (vorname.name@smail.fb06.h-brs.de). If you have not received an invitation by 18.09.2024, please contact the degree programme coordinator (e-mail: fb06.koordination-ba-sozialpolitik@h-brs.de).

Course selection for the winter semester 2024/24 begins on Friday, 27 September 2024, at 10:00 a.m. You will receive all important information about your timetable and course selection during the introductory days.

Skills Week

From Monday, 14 October 2024, to Friday, 18 October 2024, you have the opportunity to take part in our Skills Week. During Skills Week, we offer you a colourful mix of soft skills and orientation courses as well as events on various topics and opportunities for exchange and networking across all year groups. We will inform you about the options and exact dates of the events during the induction days.
