Access requirements for the Master's degree programme Biomedical Sciences
Access requirements
Access to the Master's degree programme in Biomedical Sciences requires a Bachelor's degree (or an equivalent degree) with at least 180 ECTS credit points and a minimum grade of at least 2.5 in one of the following areas:
- Biology, Medicine, Pharmacy (or a closely related degree programme) with at least 6 ECTS in each subject:
Developmental Biology, Human Biology, Immunology, Molecular Biology/Genetics, and Physiology;
- or Forensic Siences with at least 6 ECTS in each subject:
Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Forensic Genetics, Immunology, and Physiology.
The English language skills must be at least level B2 CEFR, see accepted proofs below under ‘Application documents’.
International applicants from non-EU/non-EEA countries additionally have to pass a study-related aptitude test. Applicants who have to take it and fulfil all access requirements will be invited to this online test.
Application deadlines
The Master's degree programme in Biomedical Sciences can be started once a year in the winter semester only.
For applicants with a visa requirement and a Bachelor's degree from abroad who do not yet have a visa for Germany:
15 February to 31 March via uni-assist.

For Germans, applicants without a visa requirement or who already have a visa for Germany (with a Bachelor's degree from Germany or abroad):
15 February to 15 July via the application portal Apollo.
Application documents
Before you start entering your data in the online application form, please make sure you have all documents required for the application ready:
- University degree certificate including transcripts (foreign certificates in original language and German or English translation). The transcript of grades must show the exact module names and the credits or workload earned (module handbooks are not accepted).
Transcripts up to one semester before you graduate may replace the certificate and complete transcript until you graduate. In this case and provided the access requirements are met, a conditional admission letter will be issued upon your admission to the programme and the hardcopies of your final certificates must be presented for enrolment. - Grading system of your university
- Certificate of APS if you acquired your university degree in China, India or Vietnam
- Proof of English language proficiency at level B2 CEFR like
- Secondary school leaving certificate, if it certifies English language proficiency at level B2 (usually applies to EU/EEA or German secondary school-leaving certificates, e.g. Abitur)
- English-language secondary school leaving certificate or university degree

Please read the following instructions:
- The fields marked with * are mandatory and must be completed in any case.
- Upload the required documents as PDFs.
- Make sure you provide correct and truthful information! Incorrect information can lead to exclusion from the procedure or cancellation of an already granted authorisation.
- Missing documents will be requested by us via the comments in your online application on the Apollo application portal or by uni-assist, provided you have applied in good time.
- Applicants applying via uni-assist are advised to submit the application as early as possible. Due to the preliminary review period, applications are forwarded to us with a time delay of at least 3 or 4 weeks. Please contact uni-assist directly if you have any questions about the status or the decision of the preliminary review of your application at uni-assist.
- Please pay attention to the respective application and enrolment deadlines. Applications received after the deadline or incomplete applications can unfortunately not be considered.
- Please check the status of your online application regularly. You will receive all information via the application portal Apollo.
- In case of admission
- Applicants with a Bachelor's degree obtained in countries which do not belong to EU/EEA must send their complete application documents to the university by post. Please note that all copies of documents you submit must be officially certified for authenticity with the originals. If your documents are not issued in German or English, you must also submit an officially certified translation into German or English. Only after receiving and checking your application documents by post we will be able to issue an admission letter. You can find information on certification and translation in the "Link" box at the bottom of this page.
- Applicants with a Bachelor's degree obtained in Germany or in other EU/EEA countries are not required to post their application documents.
