Four-One Model

During the lecture weeks, the normal lectures, tutorials and practicals take place. In the block weeks, on the other hand, students have time to work on projects independently through self-study phases and problem-based learning (PBL).

In the first two semesters, one module is repeated per day during the block week. Typically, students are given exercises which they first work on independently. The results are then compared in the afternoon and any questions that arise are discussed.

From the third semester onwards, ongoing projects take place during the block week for the entire semester. In addition to the technical project planning, the status of the project must be presented at the end of each of the three block weeks. This means that interdisciplinary teaching content such as project management and presentation techniques are also taught in a real project.

The four-one model was honoured with the Innovation Award of the Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences in 2011.
