Information for students on the practical project

Here you will find important information and contact points for planning and carrying out your practical project:
When do I need to take action?

You should look for a suitable project position for your practical project during the semester break after the fourth semester at the latest and clarify the technical and organisational content so that a contract can be drawn up. At the beginning of the fifth semester, you should have everything finalised so that you can concentrate on your studies
For a practical project abroad, you should plan a longer lead time. It is advisable to start planning as early as the third semester.

How do I find a work placement?

Your personal commitment is of course required here! Consider the search for a suitable practical project placement as training for a later job application.
You can find offers for project placements, for example, in the job portal of the Department of Computer Science and in the display cases of the respective supervising professors.

Organisational procedure

The main points in the 4th semester and the subsequent semester break

  • Participation in the annual information event,
  • finding suitable project positions,
  • applying "properly", waiting for interviews and acceptances,
  • filling out the forms and agreeing on specific project content with the practical project position and one of the supervising professors. Approval before the start of the practical project by the university supervisor.

In the 5th semester:

  1. Attendance at the introductory event for the practical project.
  2. The further organisational process is essentially determined by the routing slip. It is available in the download area on LEA. Additional information can also be found on LEA at practice project.
Regulations of the current examination regulations (please note: the regulations of the previous examination regulations apply to older semesters!)

§ 29 Practical project

The practical project lasts a minimum of 10 weeks and a maximum of 3 months in the context of full-time employment. It usually begins immediately after the lecture period of the fifth semester. The practical project can be carried out outside or within the university (practical project centre); it is recommended that the practical project is carried out abroad. During the practical project, the student remains a member of the university with all rights and obligations.

(6) The content and objectives of the practical project shall be defined in writing in a task description.

(7) The courses accompanying the practical project shall take place at the university.

(8) Students shall be admitted to the practical project upon application by the person responsible for supervision at the faculty if they

  1. the student has regularly attended the accompanying and evaluation events assigned to the practical project,
  2. the student has prepared a report on the practical activity in the practical project, countersigned by the practical project centre and approved by the person responsible for supervision in the faculty, which meets the previously agreed criteria,
