Workshop with lecturers from Africa - Education for sustainable development in practice
On Wednesday, November 6, the workshop took place at Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences (H-BRS) with 17 representatives from African institutions.
Organized by the Department of Economics, the ART4Dev project aims to improve the quality of education by developing expertise in the field of sustainable business, strengthening applied research in the field of sustainable development and promoting innovative solutions to address the challenges related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Africa.
During the workshop, Wiltrud Terlau and Berenice Fischer reported on their experiences in implementing Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) in their lectures at H-BRS. They discussed various teaching and learning formats they have used, including problem-based approaches, the development of podcasts and collaboration with stakeholders such as the city of Sankt Augustin and the university administration.
The African university representatives, who came from four different universities, also reported on their institutions' progress in integrating ESD into their curricula as well as their efforts in implementing service learning and competency-based education.
This exchange underscores our shared commitment to promoting sustainable development in education.
