University President Hartmut Ihne has presented Dr Nyasha Tirivayi with the certificate of appointment as an honorary professor. In future, the academic will offer courses at the Department of Social Policy and Social Security. The focus will be on the field of development economics. The agricultural economist intends to incorporate many practical examples from her professional practice into her teaching and use these to develop solutions to problems with the students. "I'm really looking forward to teaching," says Nyasha Tirivayi, "and working with the students at H-BRS." The plan is for the honorary professor to hold her courses online.

Tirivayi has many years of experience in researching economic and political contexts, analysing social security systems, data analysis and building partnerships. She has worked in higher education as well as in development cooperation and the IT sector.

Tirivayi currently works for UNICEF's Florence-based Innocenti Institute. The Institute is a research centre of the UN Children's Fund that conducts interdisciplinary, policy-relevant research. Dr Tirivayi heads the social and economic policy team there. Her responsibilities include identifying, preparing and monitoring new research, working closely with other UNICEF offices and policy makers. From 2013 to 2019, she worked as a researcher at the United Nations University in Maastricht. She previously received her doctorate from Maastricht University in the Dutch city. In her dissertation, Tirivayi focussed on the welfare effects of integrating AIDS treatment into nutrition using the example of Zambia. Tirivayi completed her studies at the University of Zimbabwe and graduated with a Master's degree in Agricultural Economics. She graduated with Magna cum Laude.
