Fight against fake news: H-BRS and Stiftung Informationskompetenz award prize
The aim is to promote discussion of the topic and raise public awareness of the impact of fake news. "Digital disinformation poses an increasing threat to our democracy," says Tanja Köhler, Professor of Digital Journalism at H-BRS and initiator of the award. "Science plays a central role in the fight against disinformation and fake news. With our new award, we want to strengthen young academics who are working on this important topic and contribute to democracy education."
Dr. Susannah Cremer-Bermbach and Till Bermbach from the Stiftung Informationskompetenz co-initiated the prize. They emphasize: "If we want to continue to live in a democratic society, we must all take decisive action against disinformation. That's why we want to support young people who also want to make a scientific contribution to curbing the associated problems and dangers in the media sector."
Bachelor's and Master's theses as well as dissertations can be submitted until September 1, 2024, regardless of the subject. The prerequisite is that the work must have been graded at least "good" in the period between January 1, 2023 and August 31, 2024. The jury for the award is made up of representatives from the Information Literacy Foundation, professors from H-BRS and experts from the media industry. The prize is endowed with 1000 euros and is to be awarded annually.
