The Fraunhofer IEE in Kassel conducts research focused on transforming energy systems. It develops solutions to address technical and economic challenges, aiming to reduce the costs of renewable energy use, secure supply despite generation volatility, maintain high grid stability, and make the energy transition an economic success.

The Doctoral College for Applied Research in North Rhine-Westphalia is a scientific institution comprising 21 universities of applied sciences in NRW. It was founded in 2020 with the higher education policy mandate of strengthening cooperative doctorates and further expanding them together with universities. Additionally, PK NRW aims to establish the necessary conditions for universities of applied sciences to independently award doctorates.
