Martin Jüngling, Business Information Systems
"Computer science. That was always a clear career goal for me," says Martin Jüngling. "Even at the age of six, I had a lot of contact with computers in my uncle's office and I was always very enthusiastic." The decision to do an apprenticeship after secondary school and then go on to study did not come from nowhere: "On the one hand, I was influenced in this decision by my parents, and on the other hand, I had had enough of learning after graduating." He completed an apprenticeship as an IT specialist and already had his goal of studying computer science firmly in mind during the subsequent vocational baccalaureate; the atmosphere within the class was perfect for this: "Everyone had completed an apprenticeship and intended to study after the vocational baccalaureate. The determination in our class was correspondingly high and everyone was very goal-orientated." Not only did he remain in contact with many of these classmates, but also with one of his teachers at the time - albeit in an unexpected way: "Professor Asteroth was my maths teacher in the technical baccalaureate. Shortly after I started my degree, he came to H-BRS as a professor, and that's how I met him again."
Jüngling comes from Buchholz in the Westerwald and made a conscious decision to study at H-BRS. He knew some graduates from there and from the Cologne University of Applied Sciences. "Once I had spoken to both sides, the decision was made."
He was not disappointed: "The programme was really great all round. The lectures were helpful and the material was very clear." And yet the demands were very high: Jüngling knows the comparison to many students in his circle of friends: "The amount of effort some of them put into their Bachelor's thesis is what I had to put into some of my normal term papers."
Jüngling has been working as a test and quality manager since 2012. Initially at Ströer Media, an international company in the outdoor advertising sector. He has been working at Gicom since 2014. The company develops programmes that support the purchasing process from planning, simulation and calculation through to negotiation and invoicing, for example for groups such as Edeka.
Jüngling tests such programmes and thus ensures that the business processes run smoothly. "It's about eliminating as many errors as possible so that they don't occur later at the customer's premises." He is open about his professional future. However, his attachment to H-BRS will certainly not change: "Studying is a really formative time. You only realise a few things afterwards, when you've been away for a while." He is thinking, for example, of the well-equipped classrooms, the great support from the lecturers and the well-stocked library, which he had taken for granted during his studies. "I think this university is a real asset for the region." He sees the fact that many of his fellow students are also happy in their jobs and have learnt a lot from their studies as proof of the high quality of the course. "In any case, H-BRS can definitely keep up with the University of Bonn."
