H-BRS seals strategic partnership with universities in Ghana and Jordan
Both the German Jordanian University (GJU) in Jordan and the University of Cape Coast (UCC) in Ghana are good friends of Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg. The German University of Applied Sciences has maintained close contacts with both educational institutions for many years. Not only have lecturers and students from H-BRS worked at times at the Jordanian and Ghanaian universities and vice versa, but the partners have also shared knowledge and initiated joint projects.
The strategic partnership now sealed at a ceremony on the Sankt Augustin campus puts the cooperation between Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg and the German Jordanian University in Jordan and the University of Cape Coast in Ghana on a new footing. High-ranking delegations from the Jordanian and Ghanaian universities travelled to Sankt Augustin for the signing of the agreement.
The new partnership covers a wide range of areas of cooperation such as the exchange of students and lecturers, the joint development of study programmes and research projects as well as the organisation of international conferences and workshops.
"The establishment of strategic partnerships will simplify cooperation. At the same time, we are expanding the services that students, employees, lecturers and researchers can use to raise their international profile," says Professor Jürgen Bode, Vice President Internationalisation and Diversity at H-BRS.
The agreement was preceded by a two-year evaluation process in which H-BRS examined the potential of four universities using a catalogue of criteria. As a result of this DAAD-funded evaluation process, UCC and GJU emerged as particularly promising. The underlying DAAD project ‘TOFI’ (Take-Off4Internationalisation) was coordinated by the International Office of H-BRS. During a three-day conference at various locations in Sankt Augustin and Siegburg, representatives of the three partner universities discussed the findings from the evaluation process and set the course for joint projects.
The Jordanian partner, the German Jordanian University, is a state university with campuses in Amman and Madaba. It is based on the model of German Universities of Applied Sciences, with the degree programmes being based on German curricula. A unique feature of the GJU is the compulsory year in Germany for all students.
The University of Cape Coast in Ghana is a public university that is recognised as one of the best in West Africa. UCC has been an important cooperation partner for H-BRS in various research and teaching projects since 2010.
International network
With over 90 partner universities in 43 countries, Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg has a large international network. All partners have been selected according to strict quality criteria. Specific agreements with the partner universities facilitate the international mobility of students. Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg has declared internationalisation to be one of its strategic priorities and has implemented a range of measures to achieve this. These include the international degree programmes in English, which are recognised by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). They offer an internationally oriented curriculum and an internationally recognised degree. Students from all departments at H-BRS can apply for a scholarship as part of the TOFI project. The scholarship supports a stay abroad at one of the partner universities cooperating in the TOFI project.
