H-BRS and waste management company want to cooperate in the ‘Green Mine’ project

In October, Bonn-Rhine-Sieg University of Applied Sciences (H-BRS) and the company Hündgen Entsorgung signed a letter of intent to collaborate on the ‘Green Mine’ project. Following the signing, Christian Hündgen, Managing Director of the waste disposal company, Professor Michaela Wirtz, Vice President of Transfer, Innovation and Sustainability, and Simon Roth, Head of the Centre for Science and Technology Transfer (ZWT) at H-BRS, met in Swisttal, where the company is based.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is intended to create the basis for close cooperation in the field of sustainable circular economy. Research and practice are to be closely interlinked by developing and testing new technologies and concepts directly on site in a real-life laboratory setting.
‘The collaboration offers great potential for scientific support in so-called regional innovation ecosystems, which deal with the pressing issues of socio-ecological-economic transformation. With the adoption of the sustainability strategy, Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences has clearly committed to actively driving this transformation forward, not only for itself, but also as a player in the region with the urgently needed practice-oriented knowledge and technology transfer,’ emphasised Wirtz.
Various cooperation ideas have already been developed in two joint innovation workshops organised by ZWT. ‘We always think of transfer bi-directionally, i.e. from both the research and the application side. Successful transfer can only be achieved if both perspectives are brought together,’ said Roth at the meeting.
Christian Hündgen emphasised the importance of the cooperation for the company: ‘The collaboration with Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences is a decisive step for us towards an innovative and sustainable circular economy. Together, we want to set new standards for recycling technologies and renewable energies in the ‘Green Mine - Swisttal Recycling Park’ project and thus promote the sustainable use of resources.’
