MOU signed with university in Ghana to collaborate on research and innovation on sustainable land management in Africa

Tuesday 14 May 2024

The Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences (H-BRS) and the University of Environment and Sustainable Development (UESD) in Ghana signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to collaborate on implementing an E-Learning Certificate in Research and Innovation on Sustainable Land Management in Africa within the framework of the INTERFACES project.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed by the President of H-BRS, Prof. Dr. Hartmut Ihne, and the Vice-Chancellor of UESD, Prof. Eric Nyarko-Sampson. This first official step towards cooperation was supported by Prof. Edward Wiafe Debrah (Pro-Rector), Prof. Dr. Wiltrud Terlau, and her team (Berenice Fischer, Dr. Eefje Aarnoudse). The International Center for Sustainable Development (IZNE) at H-BRS is responsible on the German side

„We are excited about the upcoming collaboration! The first step involved creating a short training course for the e-teaching format with the H-BRS e-learning team. Additionally, the partnership includes designing and developing the certificate content, as well as moderating the live sessions for the multifaceted certificate. We believe that these activities will set the stage for a successful collaboration and implementation of the e-certificate, which will be further discussed during Dr. Eefje Aarnoudse's visit to UESD in October 2024.”

The e-certificate "Research and Innovation in Sustainable Land Management in Africa" aims to provide Master's students in relevant disciplines with an additional qualification. The course offers application-oriented content in a blended learning format and is based on the research results, methods, and contributions of the BMBF-funded INTERFACES project and four regional projects under the call for proposals "Sustainable Land Management in Sub-Saharan Africa: Improving Livelihoods through Local Research."

The IZNE team, headed by Prof. Dr. Wiltrud Terlau, coordinates a work package on education and training activities for the INTERFACES project.
