CitizenLab: Life cycle assessment

Life cycle assessment is a scientifically based method for evaluating the environmental impact of a product. The results of life cycle assessments (LCA) help to identify at which point in the manufacturing process of a product the most environmental damage is caused. Products and production processes can be specifically modified with regard to their negative environmental impact. LCAs are a decision-making aid in the evaluation of products, for example with regard to their environmental friendliness and thus in the awarding of eco-labels.

The LCA laboratory at H-BRS offers accompanying research for industrial research and development projects in the field of life cycle analysis in order to support companies in the sustainability assessment of new processes and products. Using modern life cycle assessment software and with the help of our own modeling and simulation, we support you in identifying relevant environmental impacts and are also happy to participate in this role as a partner in publicly funded research projects.

In addition, the International Center for Sustainable Development (IZNE) offers life cycle assessment workshops for schools. Here, pupils learn about the idea of life cycle analysis and environmental assessment using the example of everyday products and learn about the climate impact of everyday objects.

„Repair skills and knowledge need to be trained more intensively again.”

In this interview, Professor Stefanie Meilinger talks about why the "right to repair", which the EU has just launched, makes sense, what contribution the university can make and she explains which factor has the greatest impact on the life cycle assessment of electrical household appliances.

Life cycle assessment (LCA) involves recording and evaluating the environmental impact of a product, service, process or company. Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences (H-BRS) also offers its LCA expertise to external stakeholders from business, science and politics as part of joint research projects or contract research.

Title_Nachhaltige_Technologien

Sustainable technology development seeks technical solutions from the energy and mobility sector in order to improve people's living conditions in line with the UN SDGs without negative environmental or social consequences. At the same time, it must be ensured that technical solutions also work when the environment and society change.
