Guest lecture at the Montenegrin Academy of Sciences and Arts

12.03.2025 Prof. Michael Rademacher eine Gastvorlesung an der Montenegrinischen Akademie der Wissenschaften und Künste

Friday 14 March 2025

On 12 March 2025, Dr Michael Rademacher, Professor in the Department of Computer Science for Embedded Systems and Networks at H-BRS, gave a guest lecture at the renowned Montenegrin Academy of Sciences and Arts in Podgorica. He was invited by the academy.

Topic: "Secure Wireless Communication in Smart Cities"

The lecture focussed on the topic of ‘Secure Wireless Communication in Smart Cities’.  Rademacher shed light on the transformation of urban communication systems from wired networks to wireless solutions, which are increasingly characterising the infrastructure of modern smart cities. He emphasised that although wireless communication offers advantages such as simple implementation and cost efficiency, it also poses specific security challenges.

In his presentation, Rademacher addressed the need for robust security measures to manage the transition from dedicated wired networks to heterogeneous wireless communication systems. One focus was on the tension between scalability and security in wireless networks, especially given the limited wireless spectrum and the growing demand for advanced cryptographic solutions.

Exchange at the University of Montenegro

Together with Tobias Kremeyer, research associate at the Institute for Security Research (ISF) at H-BRS, Rademacher held intensive talks at the University of Montenegro with the dean, vice dean and various professors and doctoral students from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering. This academic exchange provided an opportunity to discuss common research interests and explore potential collaborations.

Art and culture in Montenegro

The lecture was followed by a short tour of the art exhibition of the Montenegrin Academy of Sciences and Arts. The programme concluded with a detailed personal discussion with the President of the Academy, Ljubiša Stanković, in which further scientific and cultural topics were discussed.

The guest lecture was a successful contribution to international networking and interdisciplinary exchange between scientists.
