BEZ_eGate_Evaluation

Research project at a glance

The Biolab project is dedicated to the continuous and comprehensive evaluation of biometric systems. The project investigates the performance, security and usability aspects of biometric systems. The results lead to training courses and workshops for authorities, police forces, manufacturers and end users. The Biometrics Evaluation Center (BEZ) at the Sankt Augustin campus is the place of implementation.

Project Description

Current situation

For many years biometric systems have been an essential method of user authentication due to their ease of use and reliability. Due to increasing digitization and automation in authentication processes, biometric systems are becoming more and more important. They are now an integral part of both consumer applications (for example smartphones) and government applications (for example border control systems). However, the growing importance of biometric systems also increases the demands on reliability and security. In order to ensure effective use and thus contribute to the protection of civil society, the continuous evaluation of biometric systems in the future is of crucial importance.

The Biometrics Evaluation Centre (BEZ) on the Sankt Augustin campus serves as the venue for the evaluations. The BEZ is the central contact point for biometrics research at the university and is operated jointly by the ISF and BSI.
