Terms of Loan and Use for videoLAB Technology
Borrowing Items from the videoLAB at Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg
1. Borrowable Items
Borrowed items are always devices and accessories from the technology pool of the videoLAB, part of the Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg library. Individual devices and bundled technology packages are available. Technology packages can only be borrowed as complete sets. A full list of available equipment can be found on the videoLAB website: https://www.h-brs.de/de/bib/verleih-Sets.
The items can be used in various areas and are categorized in the library system under "LEA Demo Device," "Media Production," or "Hybrid Teaching." Each category has slightly different borrowing and usage conditions, which can be found in the following sections. A complete list of borrowed items is always included on the respective borrowing receipt.
2. Eligibility and Use
All employees and instructors at H-BRS are eligible to borrow technology from the "LEA Demo Device," "Hybrid Teaching," and "Media Production" categories. Students are eligible to borrow technology from the "Media Production" category. The borrowing location is always the Sankt Augustin campus unless the Rheinbach campus has been agreed upon in advance. Only the borrowing person is authorized to use the devices. For student projects, the circle of users can be slightly expanded, but the borrowing person remains responsible. The use of the devices must be directly related to Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg, with teaching as the primary focus. Borrowing for private use is not allowed. The use of the devices does not necessarily have to be course-related but must be in the context of the university.
3. Reservation and Borrowing Duration
Requested technology can be reserved via email to videoLAB (videoLAB@h-brs.de) for a specific period. If available, the technology will be reserved by the videoLAB team and confirmed by email. If the reserved technology is no longer needed, this must be communicated immediately so that the reservation can be canceled. If reserved technology is not picked up on the first day of the loan period without prior notice, the reservation will be canceled, and the technology will be made available to others. The maximum borrowing duration for "Media Production" and "LEA Demo Devices" technology is five working days, and for "Hybrid Teaching" technology, one working day. Extensions are not possible, but consecutive borrowing may be allowed upon availability and agreement.
4. Borrowing Process
The collection and return of borrowed items take place at the Sankt Augustin campus with the videoLAB team (Room A173). If the Rheinbach campus was agreed upon as the borrowing location, items can be picked up and returned at the library there. The videoLAB team is available Monday to Friday from 9-12 and 14-16 in Room A173 (Sankt Augustin campus). Appointments outside these core hours can be arranged via email (videoLAB@h-brs.de). The library service hours for borrowing at Rheinbach are Monday to Friday from 8:30-17:00. When handing over the borrowed items, the videoLAB team and the borrower will jointly check the completeness, functionality, and condition of all devices, and this will be recorded and confirmed by both parties' signatures on a borrowing receipt. Any damages or malfunctions that occur during the borrowing period must be reported to the videoLAB team immediately. In case of damage or loss, the borrower is responsible for repair or replacement. The borrowing is subject to the current administrative and user regulations of the Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University and District Library, supplemented or modified by these borrowing and usage conditions. Borrowing is free of charge. Transferring borrowed items within the group of eligible borrowers or to third parties is not allowed.
5. Return
Data generated by the borrower on the borrowed items' storage devices must be transferred to the borrower's own storage media and secured. The videoLAB team can assist if needed. The storage devices of the borrowed items must then be cleared of data or formatted before return. The borrower is responsible for securing their data. After returning the borrowed items, all data will be irrevocably deleted by the videoLAB team. There is no entitlement to the retention of accidentally or intentionally deleted data. The library assumes no liability for the accidental transfer of personal data. Devices and accessories of the borrowed items must be stored in their associated bags/cases. The videoLAB team will check the completeness, functionality, and condition of all borrowed items upon return. Return times must be coordinated with the videoLAB team in advance. If borrowed items are no longer needed before the end of the borrowing period, they should be returned early.
6. Overdue Returns
The library's reminder system applies if items are not returned on time.
7. Responsibilities and Liability
The borrower must handle the borrowed items with express care and protect them from theft, dropping/knocking over, rain/splash water, heat/cold, sand/soil/dirt, and all other hazards. The borrower is responsible for the safe storage and security of the borrowed items. Borrowed items must not be left unattended unless securely locked away. Storage in a car is not permitted. Instructions accompanying the borrowed items must be read and followed carefully. If there are still uncertainties, the videoLAB team must be contacted for clarification. Damages or malfunctions due to incorrect use out of ignorance are excluded. For damages or losses due to intentional or negligent actions, especially by not following these obligations, the borrower is liable for all repair or replacement costs. The borrower is liable personally or with private liability insurance. It is expressly noted that applicable laws (right to one's own image, copyright, personal rights, road traffic regulations, etc.) must be observed when using the borrowed items.
8. Exclusion from Borrowing
Anyone who repeatedly or intentionally violates the borrowing and usage conditions can be excluded from borrowing and using the items.
