Terms of Loan and Use for videoLAB Technology

The loan of media technology from the videoLAB is subject to the administrative and usage regulations for the library (Hochschul- und Kreisbibliothek Bonn-Rhein-Sieg), which are supplemented by the following loan and usage conditions.

Loan and Usage Terms for videoLAB Technology

1. Loan Items

The loan items consist of devices and accessories from the videoLAB technology pool, belonging to the University Library of Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg. Individual devices and bundled technology packages are available, with complete borrowing limited to entire technology packages. A comprehensive list of borrowable technology is available on the videoLAB website. These items are categorized as "LEA Demo Device," "Media Production," or "Hybrid Teaching" in the library system. Depending on the category, there may be slightly different loan and usage terms, as outlined in the following paragraphs. A full list of items considered loan objects is always available on the respective loan receipt.

2. Eligibility and Use

All employees of H-BRS and teaching staff are eligible to borrow technology from the categories "LEA Demo Device," "Hybrid Teaching," and "Media Production." Students are eligible to borrow technology from the "Media Production" category. The borrowing location is always the Sankt Augustin campus. Only the borrowing individual is authorized to use the devices. For student projects, the circle of individuals may be slightly expanded, but the borrowing person is responsible for liability. The use of devices must be directly related to Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg, with a primary focus on educational purposes. Borrowing for private use is not allowed. Device usage does not necessarily have to be within the course context but must be within the university context.

3. Reservation and Loan Duration

Desired technology can be requested for a specific period via email to videoLAB (videoLAB@h-brs.de). If available, the videoLAB team will then reserve the technology and confirm via email. If reserved technology is no longer needed, this should be promptly communicated to cancel reservations. If reserved technology is not picked up on the first day of the loan (unannounced), the reservation expires, and the technology becomes available to others. The maximum loan duration is five working days for technology in the "Media Production" and "LEA Demo Device" categories, and one working day for "Hybrid Teaching" technology. Extensions are not possible, but direct consecutive loans are allowed by agreement if the items are available.

4. Loan Process

To borrow technology, the borrowing individual, with a reservation (see above), will be provided with a loan card at the Sankt Augustin library. This card entitles them to collect the loan items from the videoLAB team (Room: A173). The issuance of the loan card marks the start of the loan.

The times for collecting technology from videoLAB must be coordinated with the videoLAB team in advance. Collection of the loan card at the library can only occur during its regular opening hours. If an appointment is scheduled with the videoLAB team outside the library's opening hours, the loan card must be collected before.

Upon handing over the borrowed items, the videoLAB team and the borrowing person jointly inspect the completeness, functionality, and integrity of all devices related to the loan object. This is documented on a loan receipt and confirmed by both parties' signatures.

Any damages or malfunctions occurring during the loan, as well as losses related to the loan items, must be promptly and voluntarily reported to the videoLAB team.

The current Library Administration and Usage Regulations of the University and District Library Bonn-Rhein-Sieg always apply to the loan. These are supplemented or modified by the loan and usage terms described here. The loan of items is free of charge. Passing on loan items within the group of eligible borrowers or to third parties is prohibited.

5. Return

Data generated by the borrowing individual on the storage media of the loan items must be independently transferred and secured by that person. The videoLAB team can assist if needed. The storage media of the loan items must then be cleaned or formatted of data before return. The responsibility for data security lies with the borrowing person. After the return of the loan items, all data will be permanently deleted by the videoLAB team. There is no entitlement to the retention of accidentally or intentionally deleted data. The library is not liable for the accidental disclosure of personal data.

Devices and accessories of the loan items must be stored in the corresponding bags/cases.

The completeness, functionality, and integrity of all loan items are rechecked by the videoLAB team upon return. The loan card is returned to the library by the borrowing person, officially concluding the loan. The times for returning technology to videoLAB must be clarified with the videoLAB team in advance. The return of the loan card to the library can only occur during its regular opening hours. If an appointment is scheduled with the videoLAB team outside the library's opening hours, the loan card must be returned at the next possible library opening time.

If loan items are no longer needed before the loan period expires, they should be returned promptly and ahead of schedule.

6. Exceeding the Loan Period

The library's reminder procedures apply in case of exceeding the loan period.

7. Obligations and Liability

The borrowing individual must treat the loan items with explicit care, protecting them from theft, falling/tipping, rain/splash water, heat/cold, sand/earth/dirt, and all other hazards. The borrowing person commits to secure storage and safeguarding of the loan items. The loan items must never be left unattended, unless securely locked when not in use. Storage in a car is not allowed.

Instructions accompanying the loan items must be read and observed diligently. If uncertainties arise, the videoLAB team should be contacted for clarification. Damages or malfunctions resulting from misuse due to ignorance are therefore eliminated.

In the case of deliberately or negligently caused damages or losses of loan items, particularly due to non-compliance with the mentioned obligations, the borrowing person bears all costs for repairs or restoration to the condition of the loan items at the beginning of the loan.

The borrowing individual is liable personally or with a private liability insurance.

It is expressly pointed out that when using the borrowed items, applicable laws (right to one's own image, copyright, personality rights, road traffic regulations, etc.) must be observed.

8. Exclusion

Individuals who repeatedly or intentionally violate the borrowing and usage conditions may be excluded from borrowing and using the borrowed items.
