Reforestation with drones: Garrulus launches new project phase
It has a wingspan of 2.70 m and weighs around 40 kilograms. A new drone will help the Garrulus research project to spread seeds in suitable places. At the same time, its acquisition initiates a new development phase in the project.

70,000 new e-books from Taylor and Francis
The H-BRS library has acquired 70,000 e-books from the publishing house Taylor & Francis via the NRW national licence, covered are the following disciplines: natural sciences, technology and engineering, medicine, humanities and social sciences.

Dr Michael Rademacher - an expert in network technologies
As a research assistant at the H-BRS, Rademacher conducted research in the areas of Design of secure IoT communication, security and privacy for blockchain applications, radio network planning/simulation in wireless backhaul networks (dissertation) and was project manager SDN4Wireless (networking/security of digital systems). Parallel to his work at the H-BRS, he heads the research group "Secure Mobile Communication" at Fraunhofer FKIE in Bonn. His research group deals with topics such as the construction and operation of secure smart city networks (LoRa), security vulnerabilities in mobile communication networks (4G, 5G) and secure communication for digital and distributed energy. He also coordinates the joint training activities between the university and Fraunhofer in the cyber security learning laboratory (Fraunhofer Academy). The Department of Computer Science is pleased to have been able to successfully fill the substitute professorship of network security with the scientist Michael Rademacher. We wish him all the best for his new tasks!

Vizepräsident Marco Winzker zu Innovation und Scheitern in der Hochschullehre
Die Turn Conference ist eine neue Tagungsserie, initiiert von der Stiftung Innovation in der Hochschullehre. Sie bringt die verschiedenen Perspektiven auf Hochschule zusammen: Fachlehre, Hochschulverwaltung, Hochschuldidaktik, Hochschulleitung und Studierende. In einem Videobeitrag zur ersten Tagung erläutert Prof. Dr. Marco Winzker, Vizepräsident Studium, Lehre und Weiterbildung der Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg, wie Innovationen in der Hochschullehre angeschoben werden können und warum Scheitern erlaubt ist.

GTN meets culture “Games for future experiences”
Am 16.11.22 trafen sich Vertreter*innen aus den Bereichen Medien- und Kulturwissenschaften, Spieleentwicklung, Museen und verwandten Kultureinrichtungen in der Region NRW mit den Partnern des Games Technology Network Projekts, um Games aus unterschiedlichen Perspektiven in die Museumspraxis zu integrieren und dadurch einen Austausch zwischen Wissenschaft, Game-Studios und Kultureinrichtungen zu initiieren.

Promotionskolleg NRW receives right to confer doctoral degrees
The Ministry of Culture and Science announced today that it is granting the doctoral college of the Universities of Applied Sciences in North Rhine-Westphalia the right to award doctorates. This means that the academic institution will be able to conduct independent doctoral procedures and award doctoral degrees in the future.

"I am a b-it proud" – b-it turns 20
The joint research institute of the University of Bonn, RWTH Aachen University and Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences, the Bonn-Aachen International Center for Information Technology (b-it), has turned 20 years old. Members of the scientific advisory board and employees of the foundation, former rectors, friends and supporters, professors, students and alumni were invited to the anniversary celebration at the institute in Bonn, and Dame Wendy Hall was the guest of honour.
