FAQ Application Process
How do I know whether a partner university is an option for my degree program?
You can see in our partner university list whether your department is cooperating with the desired partner university. To find out whether the desired partner university is compatible with your course of study/choice of specialization and whether the course offer is suitable for your individual course of study, please contact the person in charge of international affairs of your department.
Why can I only select certain partner universities?
Your department has concluded cooperation agreements with various partner universities, which is why you can only apply for certain universities. Some partner universities allow students from all departments to apply, which is noted accordingly in the list of partner universities.
Can I apply for more than one partner university?
Yes, you can enter a second choice in the application portal. Especially with limited places (e.g. at all Erasmus partner universities), it makes sense to think about an alternative choice, if more applications than places exist for your first choice.
The following applies to students in the Department of Management Sciences: If your first choice is a partner university with "free" or tuition waiver places, a partner university with unlimited places must be selected as the second choice. Please note your department's notice on free places at partner universities.
Why are students from the Department of Management Sciences only allowed to select one “free place university”?
The places at Erasmus or other tuition waiver partner universities are limited. In order to ensure that the places are fairly distributed, you can only choose one of these partner universities. If you do not receive your first choice, you have the option, regardless of your second choice, to apply for any remaining places at “Tuition Waiver Universities”. After the first selection round, you will automatically receive further information.
How do I answer the question: "Which academic semester should be completed/mapped abroad?" if I am already in a higher semester, but still have to complete courses from the previous semesters?
If you are unsure about this question, please get in touch with the contact person in your department.
Where can I find the exact semester dates?
You can usually find these on the websites of our partner universities. If the semester dates for the coming acaedmic year have not yet been published, please use the semester times of the current academic year as a guide. In the Mobility Online application form approximate dates are sufficient.
I have entered my data in the application portal. Where do I have to upload the other documents?
After you have completed the registration page of the application portal and clicked on "Submit application", you will receive a confirmation to the e-mail address you provided with a request to register in the Mobility Online portal. Please also check your spam folder.
ATTENTION: Your application is not complete at this point and cannot be considered in this form!
Please follow the link from the automatically generated email to complete the registration and carry out the next application steps. The application is not complete until you have uploaded all required documents. After the application deadline, you can see in your workflow that your application is now being reviewed at the International Office. After the review, the International Office will mark the application as complete and forward it to the department. Otherwise, you will receive a request to complete any missing data and documents.
Which language do the application documents have to be in?
The application documents must be submitted in English. However, if the courses at the partner university are held in German, it is also possible to submit the documents in German.
Where can I get a complete transcript of records that I have to upload to Mobility Online?
First, log in to your SIS account. Since it is particularly important that the average grade is included, go to “Performance record (PDF)”, check the boxes "English" and "Durchschnittsnote (average grade)", also check all boxes underneath "Vollständig mit (complete transcript with)" and click on "Anzeigen" in the bottom right corner to display the transcript). However, just to be on the safe side, make sure that everything is complete and that the average grade is displayed.
Do I have to write two letters of motivation, if I enter a second choice in addition to my first choice?
No, please write the letter of motivation based on your first choice. You are welcome to add 1-2 sentences based on your second choice, but this is not mandatory.
To whom should the letter of motivation be addressed?
Please address the letter of motivation to your department or the International Office. Exception: Students in the Natural Sciences department who apply for a double degree should address the letter of motivation to the partner university.
Is it necessary for me to submit a language certificate?
If the partner university requires a language certificate, you must submit it along with your application. Your department or the International Office can provide you with more information.
The application portal says that the International Office is reviewing my documents. Do I need to do anything now?
You do not need to do anything else for now. We will contact you as soon as your application has also been reviewed by the department.
Is it possible to make changes to the application documents after they have been uploaded to the portal?
You can still make changes until the application deadline, e.g. exchange uploaded documents. Should any other data you have entered change and you cannot adjust this yourself, please contact the International Office: outgoing@h-brs.de
When will I know whether I have been accepted?
After the application has been reviewed by the International Office, the selection takes place within the department. All those involved strive to carry out the selection process quickly. However, depending on the number of applications, it can take until mid/end of March before we can give you feedback. The confirmations are not all sent out at the same time, as we also take into account the application deadlines at the partner universities in the selection process. The time of the re-registration is therefore no indication of whether the application is successful.
Does the International Office forward my application documents to the partner university?
No, the application in Mobility Online is a purely internal application. After your study place has been allocated, you will receive further information on the external application procedure, i.e. the application to the partner university for which you have been selected.
Exception: Some application documents of students of the Department of Natural Sciences for a double degree are sent to the partner universities by the International Office. This does not replace the direct application to e.g. UCAS (UK) or Studielink (NL).
