Thomas Deckers has been Professor of Economics and Statistics at Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg on Sankt Augustin Campus since May 2023.
Before joining H-BRS, Thomas Deckers worked on financial technology innovations at the German Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (BaFin). He particularly focussed on the strategic impact assessment of the use of machine learning in the financial market. Since 2016, he has also worked as a lecturer at the Chair of Econometrics at the University of Duisburg-Essen.
Thomas Deckers acquired his academic qualifications through a doctorate at the University of Bonn focussing on empirical economic research. During this time, he analysed the development of economic preferences and other personality traits during childhood. Thomas Deckers previously completed his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in "Econometrics and Operations Research" at Maastricht University in the Netherlands. During this time, he also spent a semester studying at the University of Queensland in Australia.
