Public Lecture addressing „Consumer Protection in IT and Dark Patterns in Emerging Technology“
The lecture addresses the difficulties of anticipating the mid- and longterm effects emerging technologies might have on consumers as well as the resulting challenges for designers and legislative. The many unknowns of novel technologies like augmented and virtual reality or artificial intelligence require innovative approaches to protect consumers against such unwanted effects. Using the example of dark patterns, Prof. Boden and Veronika Krauß showcase how potential solutions for preventive and pragmatic regulations can be developed. Dark patterns are design solutions that are systematically applied to trick consumers into actions which are benevolent for a third party. They are mostly known and researched in the context of e-commerce websites and social media. However, their application in emerging technology can be expected.
The lecture will be held online on February 8, 2023 at 3 pm – 4 pm (German time).
