We invite everyone to join us in standing up for human dignity and democracy. We are looking forward to you joining us at the rally on Tuesday, 4 June from 17:00 to 18:30 in the car park between the H-BRS campus and the Huma shopping centre in Sankt Augustin.
Demo für Menschenwürde und Demokratie

The foundation of our democracy is the German Basic Law, which was passed 75 years ago in Bonn. Article 1 states: ‘Human dignity is inviolable.’

We stand up for tolerant and equal coexistence, mutual recognition, respect, acceptance and understanding. We reject all forms of discrimination and attacks on human dignity.

Our democracy cannot be taken for granted. This is repeatedly demonstrated by current events. It depends on as many people as possible participating and being actively involved. This includes standing up for our democracy and our fundamental rights together with the region.

For this reason the President's Office and AStA of H-BRS are joining forces and organising a rally on 4 June 2024 from 17:00 to 18:30 in the car park between H-BRS and Huma in Sankt Augustin.

Programme

At 17:00 President Hartmut Ihne and AStA Chairwoman Masharika Zamil, together with the Mayor of Sankt Augustin Max Leitterstorf, will welcome everyone to the demonstration. This will be followed by speeches on

  • "Democracy thrives on participation" by Klara Ollesch, Student Representative for Engineering and Communication, Deputy Chair of the AStA
  • "Democracy and freedom cannot be taken for granted and must be defended against any threats" by Dr. Oleksandr Velihorskyi, Scientific staff member H-BRS/Chernihiv Polytechnic National University
  • "Equality as an indicator of democratic society" by Dr. Barbara Hillen-Haas, Central Equal Opportunity Officer
  • "University thrives on diversity and encounters, democracy promotes respect" by Sarah Friedrichs, Head of Diversity Management and Presidential Commissioner for Anti-Discrimination and Anti-Racism

The rally will be moderated by Prof. Dr. Derya Gür-Şeker.

The musical finale of the stage programme will be provided by the band Knallblech (Brassband meets DJ) from Bonn.
