Our understanding of a doctorate
At H-BRS, we define a doctorate as a research-orientated deepening of an already completed university degree with the aim of making an independent contribution to science.
The prerequisite for admission to doctoral studies is generally a very good Master's degree (or a comparable degree) in a subject area that can be assigned to the planned dissertation topic.
The research results of the doctoral project are presented and elaborated in a written doctoral thesis. The process ends with a final examination and the publication of the dissertation.
Structured support for doctoral students at H-BRS is provided by the university's own Graduate Institute (GI). The institute supports supervisors and doctoral candidates in their endeavours and offers doctoral students various qualification modules.
