The presented system exploits the optical and retinal limitations of the human visual system to improve rendering quality and performance in head-mounted displays. Therefore, a tightly integrated model of gaze-contingent depth-of-field is applied to the rendered image. This approach filters rendering artifacts resulting from undersampling.
