Professor Abu Obeid recently became the President of the German-Jordan University (GJU), with which the Department of Computer Science of the Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences collaborates on various projects. Yesterday he visited his colleague Hartmut Ihne and the Department, where he met, among others, Dean Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Heiden.

The joint topic of the talks, which are assessed as having been very successful, was the state of the partnership as it now stands. For instance, several students from GJU studied at Sankt Augustin in the summer semester. Furthermore, the negotiations that aim at strengthening cooperation between Computer Engineering (GJU) and Autonomous Systems (H-BRS) have made great progress. The research focus Visual Computing aroused great interest, too.

The two university presidents also discussed the question of how to balance further areas of cooperation outside of Computer Science, such as social security systems and entrepreneurship. Prof. Ihne and Prof. Obeid discussed, among other things, the different conditions in the two countries, for example, in respect to cooperation with the business sector.

Representatives from the Department of Computer Science are going on a trip to Jordania again in autumn - possibly accompanied by President Hartmut Ihne, who has been invited by his colleague to come to GJU.
