Excellent computer science in Sankt Augustin

Wednesday 2 December 2015

40 universities from Germany and Austria took part in the Centre for Higher Education Development's ranking of Master's degree programmes in computer science. Professor Wolfgang Heiden, Dean of the Department of Computer Science, considers the total grade of 1.3 for the Master's degree programme at Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg, with an average of 1.8 for all participating universities, to be an extremely gratifying acknowledgement of the work in the department.

Students were surveyed in autumn for the ranking by the Centre for Higher Education Development (CHE), and the responses were evaluated for individual grades in eleven categories such as range of courses, studyability, internationality and IT equipment. Even though Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg's Master's degree programme in Computer Science scored better than average in all categories, there is still room for improvement when looking at the detailed results: the majority of respondents stated that it was almost impossible to complete the degree programme within the standard period of study.

In terms of satisfaction with lecturers, facilities, the range of courses on offer and the general study situation, H-BRS is in the top group. The library facilities also received top marks, and in terms of research funding per professor, the Department of Computer Science at Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg is in third place of all ranking participants. The university also scored highly in terms of internationality.
