Student health insurance

Since 01.01.2021 the H-BRS has been participating in the electronic student registration procedure of the statutory health insurance providers (university sender number HSAN: H0001002). This new electronic registration procedure between the German statutory health insurance providers and the H-BRS will enable paperless communication and sustainable optimisation of the reporting procedure.
In the future, all reports will be made exclusively electronically between the German statutory health insurance providers and the universities

In order to properly evaluate, verify and provide health insurance for students, there are mutual reporting obligations for the H-BRS and the health insurance providers in accordance with § 199a SGB V. These are:

  • Reporting obligation of health insurance providers:
    • M10: Insurance status (insured / not insured)
    • M11: Change of health insurance provider
    • M12: Delay in payment of contributions
    • M13: Settlement of contributions in arrears
  • Reporting obligation of the universities:
    • M20: Start of studies
    • M30: End of studies

These aforementioned notifications will be exchanged in an exclusively electronic reporting procedure.

Information for registered students

What will be the changes for registered students?

The change to the electronic student reporting procedure takes place automatically for students who are already enrolled. . Therefore, enrolled students do not have to take any further steps for their participation in this procedure.

In which cases do I have to take action as a registered student?

Students for whom the university receives the notification from the health insurance providers that they are "not insured" or "in arrears with the payment of health insurance contributions" will be informed via the Student Information System (SIS).

These students will be blocked for their re-registration for the next semester with the notice "Please contact your health insurance provider for clarification to have the re-registration unblocked".

After the students have settled the issue with their health insurance provider, the health insurance provider must again send a notification electronically to the H-BRS, which can then unblock the re-registration

Being a student of the H-BRS, in accordance with § 7 Para. 2 of the enrolment regulations you are obliged to actively participate in the automated or electronic operational processes and procedures used at the university.

Therefore, please regularly check the information and notifications displayed in your SIS account as well as your university e-mail account.

Information for university applicants

No enrolment without electronic notification of health insurance status

Every applicant must provide proof of his/her health insurance status in order to enrol at Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg, University of Applied Sciences.

Who is responsible for the proof of insurance status to the university?

The proof of your health insurance status must be sent directly and electronically to the university by a German statutory health insurance provider.

To do so, please request the mandatory notification for enrolment "Meldegrund M10 for Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg (HSAN: H0001002)" from your or a German statutory health insurance company of your choice.

Your insurance card or a written membership certificate is not accepted as proof.

German citizens

Please request the mandatory notification for enrolment "Meldegrund M10 for Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg (HSAN: H0001002)" from your German statutory health insurance company.

The health insurance company then reports to the university whether

  • the applicant is insured

(e.g. if you are insured with the statutory health insurance as an individual member or co-insured through your parents)

or

  • is not insured

(e.g., if you have been exempted from compulsory insurance, e.g., due to membership in a private health insurance provider).

Please note that you must have any form of health insurance other than statutory health insurance checked by a German statutory health insurance provider. You are free to choose which statutory health insurance provider should issue this report for you.

EU / EEA citizens

For applicants from EU countries who have a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC), no additional health insurance cover is usually necessary in Germany. As a rule, you only need to present your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) to a German statutory health insurance provider of your choice in order to have your health insurance status confirmed.

To do so, please request the mandatory notification for enrolment "Meldegrund M10 for Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg (HSAN: H0001002)" from a German statutory health insurance provider of your choice.

Applicants from abroad

Applicants from abroad must have adequate health insurance coverage to study in Germany and require corresponding proof for enrolment. Please refer to a German statutory health insurance provider to clarify whether your foreign or private health insurance coverage meets the requirements necessary for studying in Germany.

Some countries have concluded a social security agreement with Germany regarding health insurance coverage. In this case, ask your insurance company in your home country for a form that certifies your health insurance coverage in your home country. You can present this form to a German statutory health insurance company of your choice for clarification of your status. For further information, please contact a German statutory health insurance provider of your choice.

The proof of your health insurance status must directly and electronically be submitted to the university by a German statutory health insurance provider.

To do so, please request the mandatory notification for enrolment "Meldegrund M10 for Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg (HSAN: H0001002)" from a German statutory health insurance provider of your choice.
