Another big crowd at Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg's Company Day

A welcome boost for starting a career: over 4,000 visitors took up the offer from Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg (H-BRS) to talk to company representatives on the Sankt Augustin campus. These in turn advertised jobs in their companies at the 23rd edition of the careers fair. A total of 150 companies presented themselves on the two days of the fair (Wednesday, 13 November and Thursday, 14 November). The Company Day is one of the largest careers fairs in the Bonn/Rhine-Sieg region.

"The Company Day is a driving force for the regional labour market. Our aim as a university is to provide young people with a practical and future-orientated education. At the Company Day, students and graduates make important contacts for starting their careers and companies get to know the skilled workers of tomorrow. In this way, we strengthen the regional economy, as almost 90 per cent of the exhibitors come from the surrounding area," says University President Marion Halfmann.

Tight networking between university and economy

Professor Michaela Wirtz, Vice President for Transfer, Innovation and Sustainability, believes that networking between the university and business is very important. "The wide variety of companies and sectors represented at our Company Day reflects our close links with the economy, especially here in the region. Around a third of the companies present have been exhibiting with us for three or more years in a row, but we also make sure to attract new and exciting companies every year."

The companies had a total of around 500 positions on offer, including internships, practical semesters and final theses, entry opportunities as working students and trainees or direct entry. There were also free additional offers such as application photos by professional photographers, CV checks, coaching, interview training and presentations on both days of the fair. And to relax in between, visitors could test their talent for the Formula 1 cockpit on two company racing simulators.

Alumni recruited young talent at their old university

The target group of the company day are students, young professionals and career starters. Not only H-BRS members, but also external visitors are welcome. In previous years, many students have found an employer at the fair - this year, some alumni stood on the other side of the fair stands and recruited young talent for their company at their former university. The university itself also presented itself as an attractive employer at a stand.
