Visa and Entry Requirement

It is mandatory for students wishing to pursue a master's degree in Germany to apply for a student visa at the German mission abroad prior to their departure. In order to receive their visa, applicants must show proof of a blocked account and health insurance.

Visa Requirement

Citizens of European Union member states, Switzerland, Norway, Lichtenstein and Iceland can enter Germany with their personal ID card. After registration with the local authority you will automatically receive information about your residency permit for study or research. Most non-EU citizens must apply for a student visa at the German Embassy in their home country before traveling. The student visa allows entry and residency for up to 90 days, after which they must apply for a residency permit at the local Foreigners' Registration Office in Germany if they plan to stay longer than three months.
