With an insight into the culture of remembrance and German history, he addresses the history, causes and effects of these forms of discrimination.
Yılmaz makes his presentation vivid by bringing in numerous examples from his diverse work and personal experience. He sensitises the audience to these social challenges and offers valuable impulses for self-reflection as well as practical tips on how to (re)act without discrimination.
Burak Yılmaz is a freelance educator and author living in Duisburg, where he went to a Catholic grammar school and attended Koran school. He later studied German and English at the University of Bochum and trained as a theatre teacher.
Yılmaz initiated the project ‘Young Muslims in Auschwitz’ and runs the theatre group ‘Die Blickwandler’. His book ‘Ehrensache: Kämpfen gegen Judenhass’ was published by Suhrkamp Verlag in 2021.
