Experience report on the Prishtina International Summer University 2024
‘In July 2024, I had the honour of taking part in the renowned Prishtina International Summer University (PISU) as a lecturer. The Summer University, which brings together students and academics from all over the world every year, was once again held this year with an impressive international programme.
As one of 28 international professors, I was able to teach my course ‘International Relations’. This course attracted many interested students, both from Kosovo and from other countries. Together we immersed ourselves in the complex theoretical concepts of international relations, including realism, liberalism and constructivism. We also addressed current political issues such as the US election campaign, the Israel-Palestine conflict and growing populism in Europe. These discussions led to intensive debates and in-depth dialogue between the participants.
The days at the Prishtina International Summer University were not only academically enriching, but also offered the opportunity to get to know the culture and history of Kosovo. The university had organised an outstanding programme that went far beyond the lecture hall. This included visits from ambassadors, celebratory events and exciting excursions to explore the surrounding cities.
All in all, it was an exciting two weeks in which I was not only able to pass on my knowledge, but also learn from the diverse perspectives and experiences of the professors and students. I found this intercultural exchange with the warm-hearted people from Prishtina and beyond very inspiring. My heartfelt thanks go to Prishtina University for their hospitality and excellent organisation, which made this wonderful experience possible. I would also like to thank my department for the opportunity to participate in the summer school and my co-professor in Prishtina, Besfort Rrecaj, with whom I was able to teach my course.’
Next year, the Prishtina International Summer University will celebrate its 25th anniversary - applications from students and lecturers are expected to be possible from January 2025.
Students also have the opportunity to get to know the Balkan region as part of the ‘Get Balkanised!’ programme.
