Successful completion of the "Colour Science" course at the ICT Summer School 2024 in Helsinki

The participants of the Colour Science course of the ICT Summer School 2024, which took place from 4 to 9 August 2024 at the Metropolia University of Applied Sciences in Helsinki, Campus Myyrmäki, Finland, successfully completed their course under the direction of Prof. Norbert Jung from H-BRS. Jung was actively supported by Pia Funk and Markus Rohde, who work as research assistants at the Institute for Security Research (ISF) at H-BRS.

In the course of the programme, the students have received a scientific introduction to colourimetry. Among other things, they now know what the colour temperature of a black body and a white balance are. They have also learned how to measure the spectral reflectance of a sample and determine the corresponding standard colour values using the spectral value curves.  These can then be converted into another primary valence system and the visual colour distance "Δ E" in the CIE Lab colour space to another sample can be determined.

 The results were pleasing: around half of the students achieved outstanding results and all 19 participants successfully passed the final examination.

As in previous years, the course was very well attended internationally. The participants came from various countries, including Finland, Germany, Vietnam, Iran, Pakistan, China and Russia. The summer school once again showed how international cooperation and intercultural exchange can lead to joint success.
