H-BRS mourns the loss of Matthias Jarke

The b-it was founded more than 20 years ago as a joint central scientific institution of the University of Bonn, RWTH Aachen University, Fraunhofer and Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg.

"Matthias Jarke was a visionary in the field of computer science and a bridge builder between science and industry. With b-it, he created a unique platform for interdisciplinary research and teaching that attracts and promotes young talent from all over the world. His enthusiasm for digitalisation and his commitment to young scientists have inspired and shaped generations of students and researchers," reads the obituary of the b-it Board of Directors, which includes Professors Sascha Alda (H-BRS), Stefan Decker (RWTH Aachen University and Fraunhofer FIT) and Stefan Wrobel (University of Bonn and Fraunhofer IAIS).

"With him, we are not only losing an outstanding scientist and designer, but also a warm-hearted and humorous person who always had an open ear and an encouraging word for everyone. Our deepest sympathy goes out to his wife, children and grandchildren. We will always honour Matthias Jarke's memory. His life's work will live on in us and in b-it."
