VDI Sponsorship Award 2024: 1st place for Ahmed Faisal Abdelrahman

Ahmed Faisal Abdelrahman, now an alumnus of H-BRS, emerged as the winner of the VDI sponsorship award with his master's thesis in the Autonomous Systems degree programme on "A Neuromorphic Approach to Obstacle Avoidance in Robot Manipulation".  On 25.01.2024, he was honoured for his outstanding work with first place and prize money of 2,000 euros by laudator Horst Behr (Chairman VDI Kölner BV).  His supervisor Prof Dr Paul Plöger (H-BRS) accepted the prize on his behalf, as Abdelrahman was unable to attend the event and could only join in online.

The sponsorship prize is awarded for outstanding diploma, bachelor's and master's theses in engineering disciplines at universities and universities of applied sciences in the area of the Cologne district association. The award is intended to motivate young graduates in line with the VDI's mission to promote engineering education and training.

Last year, Abdelrahman already took first place in another competition with his Master's thesis.

The interest in his research work shows that he is well on the way to driving progress in robotics by demonstrating how robots can perceive, understand and react to their environment with a new approach.
