Summer School on Operating Systems

Lectures: Mon - Thur 14:00 - 15:20 CEST (plus one hour lab (tbc))
First three weeks virtual / second three weeks in person at H-BRS

This course is directed to undergraduate students in the fields of Computer Science or Computer Engineering or other fields of study. Prerequisites are C programming skills and basic knowledge on computer architecture. This offer is directed to students at the H-BRS Department of Computer Science as well as to students at our partner universities around the world. Please note that participation is restricted and admission will be granted based on capacity in the course and upon nomination by the partner university.
Content:
The course examines the fundamental role of an operating system in relation to the operation of applications. Essential theory of operating systems is covered, including processes, process synchronization, inter-process communications, process scheduling, storage (primary and secondary) management, resource sharing, security, I/O, and user interfaces. In addition to theory and concepts, specific implementation related information will be covered using the Linux Operating System and the C programming language.
