Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg certified as a “family-friendly university” for the sixth time

Die Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg (H-BRS) ist für weitere drei Jahre mit dem Prädikat „Familiengerechte Hochschule“ ausgezeichnet worden. Den Titel trägt sie seit 2007. Jetzt hat die H-BRS das Auditierungsverfahren der berufundfamilie Service GmbH zum sechsten Mal in Folge erfolgreich abgeschlossen. Mit dem Qualitätssiegel wird der Hochschule die gute Vereinbarkeit von Studium oder Beruf mit familiären Aufgaben bescheinigt.

“This is a special recognition of our long-standing, sustainable, family- and life-phase-conscious personnel policy,” says Barbara Hillen, Central Equal Opportunities Officer at the university. Family justice is an important aspect of the university's self-image. It also increases the university's attractiveness as an employer in view of the shortage of skilled workers.

Paying more attention to family caregivers

Over the past 15 years, numerous services for employees and students with children have been firmly integrated into everyday university life - from vacation childcare for primary school children to a parent-child workroom, breastfeeding and nappy-changing rooms and kids' boxes to borrow (“mobile nurseries”). The HELP advice center is also an integral part of a family-oriented learning and working environment. These services are constantly evaluated and developed further. For example, the offer of free menstrual products is to be made permanent. Over the next three years, however, the H-BRS measures will focus even more on the needs of family caregivers.

Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg is increasingly committed to the compatibility of studies, career, science and family. Already successfully certified four times, it has been able to implement a large number of measures and projects since 2007 in order to create better support services for family-friendly study and working conditions at the university.
