Development of the Campus Garden
The campus garden of the Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences is embedded in a near-natural recreation area bordering the "Green C". For a long time, the area was not accessible, but served as a rain overflow for the water ditch and roof runoff. Due to student requests, the area was made accessible by renovating the bridges over the ditch. Then, this green space could be opened for use as a semi-natural recreation area.
After the "Green Office" was established in 2018, other diverse suggestions arose from students to make the university's outdoor spaces greener and better utilized.
Students developed the structure of the garden on the green space in courses offered by five degree programs and three departments during the summer semester of 2020. They developed a demand plan, the preliminary planning of the beds, and the acquisition of equipment and accessories.
A concept was created for the further construction and maintenance of the garden and for the launch of a garden working group. The students sourced building materials for the beds, coordinated the structural implementation and built beds and an automatic irrigation system.

Events in the campus garden
Garden Friday
On Fridays, the gardening group meets to garden together and exchange ideas in the campus garden. This is where larger actions are also implemented, such as the creation of a flowering border or the concerted planting action in the spring to stock the beds.
