Best Paper Award for Ahmad Drak

Thursday 28 March 2019

PhD student Ahmad Drak received a Best Paper Award for his paper titled ‘Towards Finding an Optimal Flight Zone for a Side-by-Side Tracking UAV w.r.t Extraction of Dynamic Vector Fields‘ presented at the 19th International Arab Conference on Information Technology.

The paper discussed a methodology of tracking a ground vehicle via a UAV in real-time in order to extract dynamic vector fields of tufts attached to the vehicle. This allows for creating a real-world model of the airflow surrounding the vehicle,  compare that to simulated models and in return allow to further enhance the aerodynamic properties of the vehicle.

The award was given on the 30th of November 2018 during the closing ceremony of the ACIT conference. From the 55 accepted publications, 8 potential papers were short-listed from the 8 different running sessions, as chosen by the steering committee. The best three papers were then selected from the short-listed publications.
