Municipal innovation partnerships

Urbanization is making rural regions far less attractive for business and citizens. Studies show, however, that municipalities that cooperate with regional universities prosper in the long term.

Holistic concept for sustainable cooperation

Municipal Innovation Partnerships (Kommunale Innovationspartnerschaften, KIP) is a sub-project of Campus to World. The goal is a general KIP toolkit for sustainable development of rural areas in collaboration with H-BRS. This KIP toolkit should contain shared formats, measures and processes and improve the integration between H-BRS, the municipality and the target groups in business, politics and society.

The strategic partnership between H-BRS and the pilot municipality Neunkirchen-Seelscheid was established for this purpose back in 2016. A holistic concept is being realized under the Campus to World project since 2018. This project accompanies the process by surveying citizens and businesses on the current situation as well as planning, developing and implementing cooperations. Strategies and measures are developed in cooperation with local actors in the municipality of Neunkirchen-Seelscheid. Among the first outreach measures is the establishment of a project office at the town hall and a series of innovation breakfasts at local business premises.

The project is connected to the Centre for Entrepreneurship, Innovation and SMEs (CENTIM) at H-BRS.

Our vision is to fulfil the third mission of H-BRS: To cooperate with rural municipalities for holistic, sustainable development.

Our mission is to develop a general KIP toolkit for sustainable development in rural areas in collaboration between H-BRS and the municipality of Neunkirchen-Seelscheid. This toolkit should contain shared formats, measures and processes and improve the integration between H-BRS, the municipality and the target groups in business, politics & society.
