Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg (H-BRS) is once again offering a Voluntary Social Year (FSJ) in Science, Technology and Sustainability in the Department of Natural Sciences and the Institute for Functional Gene Analytics (IFGA) from September 2025. The FSJ enables volunteers to work on research into inborn errors of metabolism in Professor Jörn Oliver Sass's working group at the Rheinbach campus. Among other things, they learn biochemical and molecular biological methods.

In twelve months, the volunteers acquire basic laboratory skills (including cell culture) and gain insights into bioscientific degree programmes and professional fields. The H-BRS thus offers an exciting alternative to starting a degree programme or apprenticeship straight away. The FSJ can be recognised as a waiting period for a degree course and in some cases as a pre-study internship.

While an FSJ is only possible up to the age of 26 and is often completed directly after the Abitur, a Federal Voluntary Service in the same working group is available for those over the age of 27 who are interested in science.

Applications are now open

Applications with a motivation letter, CV in tabular form and the last two grade reports can be sent immediately by email to joern.oliver.sass@h-brs.de.
