Implementation of the sustainability strategy takes shape

Under the leadership of H-BRS's sustainability management team, the sustainability goals adopted in the strategy were prioritised interactively across departments and fields of action and prepared for the roadmap process in the workshop. In addition to the sustainability strategy team, other university members from teaching, research, administration and transfer as well as students from student committees were invited.

Significance for the roadmap process
As part of the roadmap process, an implementation plan for H-BRS's sustainability strategy is being developed, which includes the five areas of action ‘Sustainability in teaching’, ‘Sustainability in research’, ‘Sustainability in infrastructure, governance and campus life’ and ‘Digitalisation and sustainability’. This is complemented by the field of action ‘Participation and communication’, which ensures the involvement of university members in the process.
The workshop was preceded by several meetings of the specialist teams formed for the individual fields of action. The teams analysed the current status of the areas of action and discussed the prerequisites for successfully implementing the objectives.
‘Sustainability is not only anchored in a strategy at our university, but is also practised in teaching, research and transfer as well as in the areas of governance and infrastructure. Our activities are visible regionally and internationally, which should be an incentive to continue working on our ideas and visions,’ emphasised Chancellor Angela Fischer. ‘I also think the project and the process are so important because all employees and students are involved in an interdisciplinary way and are encouraged to participate and contribute to its success. This type of collaboration should set the tone for the university culture and other subject areas,’ continued the Chancellor.
By involving stakeholders from all areas of the university, synergies are to be created and potentials discovered, but also deficits identified. Together, the participants set an example for the transformation at the university on the way to structurally anchoring sustainability.
The results of the roadmap process are part of the process for creating the university development plan.
