"Sustainability and Controlling" is the title of the teaching and research area that Simone Bernatzky will represent as a new professor at the H-BRS Department of Management Sciences. The doctoral researcher also wants to contribute her experience in intercultural digital collaboration to her teaching. She will take up her position as professor on 1 July 2024.

Dr Simone Bernatzky's teaching topics range from controlling and corporate sustainability management to digital transformation in companies and corporate finance. The topic of sustainability is particularly close to her heart. She would like to re-establish this as a key topic in the Department of Management Sciences.

Since 2016, she has been a project manager in international sales controlling and operations management at Allianz Technology SE. Prior to this, she completed her doctorate in the field of sustainability and controlling at the Chair of General Business Administration and Controlling at the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Duisburg-Essen. A research stay took Simone Bernatzky to the IÉSEG School of Management at the Université Catholique de Lille in France. From 2006 to 2011, she studied business administration, specialising in controlling and corporate finance, at the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster and the John Molson School of Business, Montréal, Canada.

The newly appointed professor also brings experience in global, intercultural digital collaboration from her practical work. She wants to prepare students for this globalised business practice in the best possible way. To this end, she plans to focus on the further digital development of teaching and the design of digital teaching concepts.

"The intersection of digitalisation and sustainability represents a current area of tension in companies, in which the use of digital technologies creates opportunities and challenges for a sustainable way of doing business," said Simone Bernatzky on her appointment as professor. "I would like to shed more light on these in teaching and research."

University President Hartmut Ihne was delighted with the new appointment and the new professor's focus: "With her focus areas, Dr Bernatzky fits in very well with our university's strategy."
