Professor Wilhelm Schneider honoured for 25 years of service

After training as a bank clerk and working as a credit officer, he studied economics at the Georg-August University of Göttingen, where he gained his doctorate with a thesis on the accounting of banks. He then worked for a major German bank, where his last position was as department director in charge of a project to redesign the global integrated balance sheet analysis and financial planning software.

In 2000, he was appointed professor at the Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg in Rheinbach. Since 2001, he has held the Chair of Business Administration, in particular External Accounting and Corporate Taxation. His teaching and research focusses on international group accounting and financial statement analysis. In a survey conducted by manager magazin, H-BRS has been recognised as one of the ten best universities in the field of auditing three times in a row since 2020.

In addition to his work as a university lecturer, Schneider has been involved in academic self-administration for almost two decades. He has represented the group of professors in the Departmental Council without interruption since 2005 and has also been a member of the  senate since 2013. He has been Chairman of the Examination Board at Rheinbach Campus since 2006. Since the same year, he has balanced this activity by heading the ‘Programme for Excellence’, in which he works together with Anne Schaefer to promote particularly talented and committed students in the department.

As a ombudsperson of the department, he is particularly keen to promote the compatibility of family and career and/or studies. As the first division manager he was able to secure part-time employment with his employer in order to enable his wife to take up her professorship at FH Aachen six months after the birth of their first son. He appreciates the flexible working time models at universities, which enable both parents to participate equally in working life and bringing up children.

In his free time, the history enthusiast enjoys travelling the world's oceans with his family.
